Frank Morley Fletcher [1866-1950] – Biography
F.Morley Fletcher was a painter and woodcut artist. He studied at the University of London and was connected with the St John’s Wood Art School before further study in Paris.
His subjects are mainly landscape and figures. He is known for encouraging Japanese coloured woodcut printing in Western Europe.
His career progressed to teaching woodcut printing with students including Allen W. Seaby and influenced Eric Slater and Lilian Snelling.
Fletcher was the director of the School of Fine Art at Reading College in Oxford and worked with many artists including the Swedish artist Bror J. Olsson-Nordfeldt.
Later in his career he became director of the Santa Barbara School of Arts in California.
He lived in London in 1888, Reading 1893 and Edinburgh in 1911 and died in Ojal California, USA.
