Biography – David Hockney [b.1937]
Born in 1937 in Bradford he was educated at Bradford College, Chelsea College of Arts and Royal College of Art. he is known for his paintings, printmaking, photography, digital art and set designs. In the 1960’s he was part of the pop art movement along with Peter Blake.
In the mid 1960’s he moved to Los Angeles where he completed a series of work based on swimming pools. He lived between London, Los Angeles and Paris but in the late 1970’s he lived in the Hollywood Hills and had a beach house in Malibu.
In the 1980’s started experimenting with photo collages using Polaroid and 35mm colour prints to make composite images in a Cubism style. Later in the 1990’s he painted the Yorkshire landscape culminating in his largest work ” Bigger Trees Near Warter” which was hung in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2007.
To date he has exhibited at over 400 solo exhibition with his first shoe in 1963 at Kasmin Ltd.
