Frederick Joseph Yates [1922-2008] – Biography
He was born in Urmston in 1922 and studied at Bournemouth Art College (now Arts University Bournemouth). His brother was killed in the war which effected him greatly. He became a teacher on the South Coast.
In the late 1960’s he moved to Cornwall to become a full time painter with his first solo exhibition in Plymouth and London.
In the 1990’s he moved to France living at many addresses.
He died in 2008 and is buried in
He painted in a Naive style inspired by the Manchester Artist L.S.Lowry and aimed to paint the lives of ordinary people.
