Frederick Golden Short [1863-1936] – Biography
He was born in Lyndhurst in the New Forest, Hampshire in 1936 and trained at the Southampton School of Art. During his career he visited Scotland and the North of England and painted in Devon and Cornwall. We have also see paintings of Germany and Holland.
Early in his career his work was illustrated in the London Illustrated News.
His studio was in Lyndhurst High Street behind his father’s chemist shop and he travelled the New Forest on his bicycle.
What did Frederick Golden Short paint?
He mainly painted New Forest views during different seasons. His earlier work, pre 1900, is more likely to have figures, animals and buildings. We have previously purchased paintings of Lyndhurst, Burley, Beaulieu, Isle of Wight, Newlyn, Christchurch and Milford on Sea. Also scenes of Brockenhurst, Sway, Lymington and Southampton.
