Biography Kyffin Williams [1918-2006]
John Kyffin Williams was born in Llangefni in 1918 and was educated at Shrewsbury School. After a shortened army career in the Royal Welch Fusiliers due to ill health he was advise to take up art for his health. He went on to study at the Slade School of Fine Art from 1941 to 1973, winning the Slade Portrait Prize.
After the Slade he taught at the Highgate School with pupil including artists Anthony Green and Patrick Proctor.
In 1968 he travelled to Patagonia to study and paint in the Welsh settlement in Y Wladfa producing a large body of work.
After retiring from teaching he spent the next thirty years painting from his studio in Anglesey and promoting Welsh art.
He died in 2006 in Anglesey and is buried at St Mary’s Church in Llanfair-yng-Nghornwy, Wales.

He mainly painted landscapes with some portraits and drawings. His works sometimes included figures and animals. Subjects included Welsh landscapes, Venice and Patagonia.
