Paul Nash  [1889-1946] – Biography 

He was born in London in 1889 and studied art at the Slade School of Art. Before this he studied at the St Paul’s School and Chelsea Polytechnic. Fellow students at the Slade included C R. W. Nevinson, Stanley Spencer, Ben Nicholson and Edward Wadsworth. During World War 1, as an official war artist,  he depicted the conflict with epic compositions and went on to produce works of aircraft during World War II. He was a member of the Artist Rifles and in 1917 was wounded.

Between the wars, in the 1920’s, he worked on wood engravings becoming involved with the Society of Wood Engravers. In the mid 1920’s he taught at the Royal College of Art in London where two of his students included Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious.

He lived Over Heath, London and Dymchurch in Kent.
