Winifred Nicholson (1893-1981 ) – Biography
Born in Oxford in 1893 she was the eldest child of Charles Roberts and Lady Cecilia Howard. She studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London before and after World War one and also with her grandfather, who was an amateur painter and a friend of William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones. Winifred Nicholson married artist Ben Nicholson in 1920 having three children: Jake, Kate, and Andrew. She separated from Ben Nicholson in 1931, after he met Barbara Hepworth, before moving to Paris with her children in 1932.
Artistically she painted mostly still-lifes and landscapes, with some abstract works during her time in Paris.

Winifred Nicholson died in 1981 in Cumbria.
