Francis Bacon (1909-1992) – Biography
Born in Dublin in 1909 he was a figurative painter known for emotive paintings, covering the Cubism, Expressionism and Surrealism periods. Alongside Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí, Francis Bacon is considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Bacon’s early work was influenced by Cubism, but he later developed a distinctive style characterised by twisted, distorted figures and vibrant colours. His paintings often depict human portraits, skulls, and other images of mortality and the human condition. Bacon’s paintings are highly expressive and emotionally charged, showing feelings of despair, anxiety, and existential crisis.
