Lucian Freud (1922-2011) – Biography
Born in Berlin Germany in 1922. He was a British figurative painter and one of the best known English portraitists of the 20th century, many are psychologically complex works. Educated at the Central School of Art and Goldsmiths’ Collage. He was a leading figure in the New York School of painting, alongside artists including Willem de Kooning and Franz Kline. Freud’s paintings often depicted people from his own life, including friends, family members, and models. His artistic style is demonstrates loose brushstrokes, vivid colours, and an emphasis on psychological introspection. Freud’s work explores themes of human vulnerability, anxiety, and the complexities of human relationships.
