Eric William Ravilious [1903-1942] – Biography
He was born in London in 1903 and grew up in East Sussex,
Ravilious was a painter, designer, book illustrator and print maker with wood engraving and lithography. His subjects include landscape of the South Downs, figure subjects and war.
He studied art at the Eastbourne School of Art and the Royal College of Art. Ravilious was friends with Edward Bawden and studied under Paul Nash.
During World War II he became an Official War Artist and during a patrol in 1942 went missing presumed dead in Iceland.
