William Edward Greengrass [1892-1970] – Biography
He was born in 1892 in Hertfordshire and went on to study at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art in London under the linocut artist Claude Flight.
Greengrass, after originally producing wood engravings moved on to linocuts where his subjects were based on dynamic movement of sporting events and the human form.
At one time he was employed by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London as an assistant keeper.
His linocut ‘The First Fence’ was illustrated in Claude Flight’s, book of ‘Lino Cutting and Printing’ in 1934.
William Greengrass exhibited at the Redfern Gallery in London in linocut exhibitions with other Grosvenor school artists.
